Clip to ScrapBook #23

I would even venture to say that it is MORE your job than it is the parents' job! Never give a large project to a student without having some sort of back-up or emergency plan for those kids that are in this type of situation. Would you give a math assignment, but not provide a math book? The materials can be school-provided. I'm not saying it needs to come from your wallet, but the fact that some of you are scoffing at the idea of the teacher buying the materials just proves that some of the parents would be as well. If YOU don't want to buy them because YOU can't afford it, then the same is probably true for the parents. REGARDLESS, you've got a fifth grade student standing there....no support at home, knowing she has this project to do, but can't seem to get herself started. Maybe even embarrassed at how late it's gotten. Her teacher SHOULD be the savior here. This IS our job.
