Clip to ScrapBook #7

While I realize that the Y's job is a great opportunity, getting a permanent teaching job as a sub is affected by the economy but is also about being in the right place at the right time. It also gives you a chance to check out the schools and find out who the jerks are and what the really good schools offer their teachers. That's not always the case in the most affluent schools, so you know more than some of us. If a teaching job does become available, you can apply for it right away because you are in the system. Long-term subbing is also useful to find a full-time gig. And you still get to choose when and where you work. I say keep subbing--it gives you better odds and I speak for a lot of full-time teachers when I say I appreciate your work.
