Clip to ScrapBook #1

I was filming Friday. We were working on writing a narrative from a different perspective.
One of my students (J) raised his hand and asked, “Mrs. XXX, is cock spelled with a c or a k?”
Me, “Um...”
My normal response is to tell him to look it up or could you give me some perspective so I know we are using the right word, but I’m afraid to open that can of worms.
Another student tries to be helpful. “You mean Cox?”
Student J, “No, cock. Cock!” emphasizing the hard K at the end.
Me, “Let me come over there and see what you have so far and make sure we are understanding each other.”
I can’t even express the atmosphere in the room at this point. I am trying to hold it in with everything I have! Students are rolling on the floor, and J is so completely oblivious that I know he is being genuine and not trying to be a show off or mischievous.
I look at his narrative, and he has one line to introduce his character, Jim Cock Holmes. He wanted to use Sherlock Holmes, but he was going to be a screw up detective. J wanted him to have a similar sounding name, and J’s rooster’s name is Jim Cock. OMG! I can’t even!
