Clip to ScrapBook #20

FL is 5 by September 1st as well... do we get some that are 4 for the first 2/3 weeks of school.
Though, technically kindergarten isn’t required in Florisa, kids just must be in school by the time they are 6, though most families don’t follow that. We do get a rare case where they homeschool or keep their child out until 6 but again, very rare.

“Florida law, [Section 1003.21 (1)(a) and (2), Florida Statutes], specifies that all children who have attained the age of six years or who will have attained the age of 6 years by February 1 of any school year are required to attend school regularly during the entire school term. Specifically, children are eligible to enroll in public school kindergarten if they have attained age 5 on or before September 1 of the current school year”

I teach third and have a student that was 7 until the end of September bc she started school in Puerto Rico and they start earlier. It happens quite often in our school... we had a 8/9 year old in 5th grade this year due to the same reason. The school did talk to the parents and move her into 4th partway in to the year.
