Another letter writing center idea that I found in a magazine, (Mailbox, I think) was to put small stuffed animanls at the center. THen the students choose an animal and write a letter to it, but do not tell what animal they chose. THey have to put clues in to identify the animal. This combines descriptive writing with letter writing.

Example

Dear Friend,
Your fuzzy mane and long tail are very beautiful. Loud roars scare me sometimes. I hope that I can come visit you in the zoo some day soon.
