Clip to ScrapBook #5

Quote:
I almost always play music during quiet work time. Either instrumental or meditation type music. Some people don't like complete silence. I am o e of them. If I'm in a completely silent classroom it freaks me out. That's not normally a problem with 25 5th graders.
I'm with Claire on the music! I'm rarely comfortable in complete silence, and I think more and more kids feel the same way. We live in a noisy world, and silence is definitely becoming the exception rather than the default.

If you want to experiment, choose a soft background music you like better than the humming, and see if the student stops.

Or, if you're the opposite and really need silence, maybe let the kid try headphones while working?
