Bare bones likely means they were afraid and overly cautious - what a statement about our country today.
My school seems to be very different from many others. We are encouraged to bring up recent events and talk through them, even if it means not getting to the day's planned lesson. I'm betting the majority of us intend to cover the inauguration with our classes tomorrow. We spend a fair amount of time discussing current events and how to address them with students when we are in meetings. I think the makeup of the community plays a big part in that. I suspect that living in a very red state or area would lead schools to be more cautious, and a company selling stories nationwide likely prefers bland to anything that might cost them customers.
