Clip to ScrapBook #2

introduce the unit on a Thursday or Friday, make the "Homework" that weekend as collecting 5-10 different rocks as different as can be from each other in their locale and bring them in to be observed.

Then you will have a variety of rocks to choose from and, hopefully, you will get a wide variety of types of rocks. In addition to homework, one year, I had a "field day" where we just walked around outside on the grounds and driveways near the school building to get some. Even concrete chunks make for interesting conversations about mixtures.

By now, I have quite a collection in a milk crate--mostly "found" rocks but also some donated by others and few from my own DD's gift shop purchases from older field trips to outdoorsy places.
