I also do pullout and inclusion, and generally do feel pretty good about what I do. I think that a lot of it has to do with my willingness to see student growth from multiple perspectives, and not just academics. They have made academic growth, but it tends to be more slow and is not often reflected formal assessments.

I think that in special education small moments are huge. For example, one of my students told me that he felt sad that he wasn't going on the field trip to the beach. (The beach trip was just for students who participated in certain programs, which he doesn't.) For him to correctly identify and express his feelings in words and facial expressions and body language was truly significant. I wrote a note to his parents about it, and got a very sweet note back.

I have had to do a lot of documentation this year because I am working on an advanced teaching certification. I took many photographs of student work and students working in various situations. All the evidence has to be uploaded anyhow to be submitted. Reviewing the photographs has helped me figure out if there were other learning elements going on or what else I could be doing.
