I'm looking for some suggestions for picture books to read to a second grade class. There is only a 20 minute slot - so any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

My class loves books by Diane DeGroat and Jan Brett. Diane DeGroat is also coming to visit our school next month. I start each day with a read aloud picture book, the kids love it.

Every year (usually in Sept.) I read, and my kids adore, any Robert Munsch book. I love them and use them as part of an author study. He does great repetition. I use picture books every day, in all subject areas. My principal just asked for a list of books used by the primary grades...I've got hundreds so if you want some ideas in specific areas or themes I'll try to help. One of my top ten favorites (alliteration) is Dinorella, part of my Cinderella theme picture books.

There are so many wonderful books out there! Here are some favorites:

*Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - and talk about what they'd like to "rain" down in their town.
*Morris the Moose has a Cold - or any of the Morris the Moose series - I like this particular one when it's cold and flu season - the kids love when you can make your nose sound stuffed when you're reading it.
*If you Give a Moose a Muffin - or any of this series.

Something else you could do is to ask the kids to bring in their favorite picture book for you to read each day. They would love that! I did that with Dr. Seuss books one year, but you could do it with any author.
