Hey everyone! Let's see if we can get a live RW discussion going in the chat room! My thoughts are to try a more open-ended topic (like: Reader's Workshop) and then if a lot of people participate, we could always set more specific topics.

I know it's hard to agree on times and dates in this format, so I'm going to randomly pick 2 days. That way, if you can't do one, you can do the other (or you could come to both): Monday, July 16th and Thursday, July 19th.

Vote on which time of day is best for you:

Eastern times:

8 am
12 noon
9 pm

I'll post the time and dates in the Sunflower Room!

I assume eastern? I recall you teaching in an Eastern state/time zone... It sounds like fun! I'll check back so i can put it on my calendar.

Great idea! I'm new to this and would love to hear the expertise of such wonderful teachers.

Thanks, Bookmuncher for the correlation chart of Reading Workshop, Writers Workshop, etc... It helps a lot.

Could we discuss schedules? How do you fit all this into your day? Other possible topic I would find helpful would be specific mentor texts (for both Reading and Writing Workshop) everyone uses to teach certain topics.

I am really looking forward to it,
Maureen

Great idea, but I don't think I will be able to participate.... I will be in Boston for the Responsive Classroom Conference. I'm not sure if I will have access to wireless... If I can, I'd love to make it, but not sure if it'll work out. Can we make this a weekly meeting time? I'll be back the following week????

Kn324-- don't worry... we will definately keep meeting-- If people really like the time frame we pick, I don't see why it couldn't be weekly?

Mrs. R-- thanks for the reminder about time zones-- I always forget this is a national- even international- group. I love PT!

PS: I vote for 9pm too.

We also use Responsive Classroom-last year was our first year. We were trained for one week and had a 1/2 day workshop and that's it. We all have so many questions, especially after working with it for a year. Would yo be willing to answer some questions?

Sorry this is a bit off topic!

Bookmuncher--thanks for thinking of this. I think 9 p.m. is probably best due to the different time zones. I can do it on the 16th but I'll be in the air flying to VACATION on the 19th!!!!!

I will blog about my experience learning about the Responsive Classroom when I get back, or while I'm there depending on the internet situation (and how much touristy stuff we're doing ).

So look for it the weekend of the 21st!

As a new Growing Readers fan and just beginning to level my books for RW for September, I am eager to learn a lot of the ins and outs of it. Whatever time you decide would be wonderful.
