Interested in Library/Media

Hello Friends,
I am just posting to get some more general infromation about Library and Media. I am interested in getting both a Master's in Education and a Master's in Library Science. Originally, I was interested in only the MLIS, since I already have a BA in English.
However, what with the numerous library closings in NYC and very high competition in this field, I thought it might be smart to go for my Master's in Ed first, and then I could always become certified as a school media specialist and/or other type of librarian, should a position open up at the school I am working in or elsewhere. I love both fields--since I enjoy teaching and learning and helping others. And having spoken to librarians at various universities and schools, I have learned that it gives you the edge if you have two Master's.
I guess the point of this post was to ask if anyone can shed light on these statements--do 2 MA's really help out in the long run? Does my plan sound realistic and like I am taking the smarter route? Also, does anyone know if employment opportunities in the Library field are more in demand in other parts of the country (Since they are pretty bleak here). Another reason I am considering this other route is because I probably will stay in New York, and want to be ensured employment. Thanks all!
