Non Fiction Features

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am teaching about non fiction features next week and I am curious if anyone has any ideas on books with interesting types of print. For example, bold words, italic words, words that have all capitals in them or books with words written in different shapes. I know there are tons, but I can't think of where I saw these interesting things right now. I appreciate it

Use your science or social studies textbooks-they are awesome! Go to teacherspayteachers (free to join) and search out "Text Features". I found wonderful posters that are inexpensive which show every type of text feature in color. Then I had my students do a Text Feature Scavenger Hunt and focus on one text feature a day. They scan the science books and they are so excited!

Check out Beth Newingham's post about teaching nonfiction. She has posters you can print for free.
