Our school is in the process of getting funding for iPads. Would love to hear your thoughts on:
  • What apps are most helpful for you in the classroom?
  • What are your favorite apps?
  • How do you use the iPads on a daily basis?
Thanks in advance for your help!

iPad Apps

Although our school doesn't have iPads, I use mine with my students. I use an Elmo and LCD projector for some of the apps (readcalouds, visual timer, or to share an app that the students can later download for free or purchase at home).

For teacher use I use:

Common Core (great reference for grades K to 12)
Google Drive
Pages- word processing
LevelBook- for recordings of running records
Visual Timer- similar to Time Timer, but free!
Too Noisy-noise level monitoring
Stick Pick- use any of 3 modes- Bloom's, Bloom's Revised, or ESL
IBooks- for read alouds
Kindle App- for read alouds
Nook- for read alouds
Storia- ebooks

Hear are some Math Apps I have shared with students and hope they would buy at home, but most are free:

Geoboards
Hungry Fish
Zoom
Coin Math
Grade 2 math
Counting Board
Pearl Diver

ELA-
Sentence Maker- be sure to check the settings so you can adjust difficulty level, probably k-2 level

Hope this helps! Wish my school had a classroom (or at least a small set of iPads!).
Have fun! I may post more later.

I look forward to seeing what other teachers use....

Thank you so much for the quick and thorough response. I have to have a tentative list ready for Friday (yes, before Christmas Break!) and your list will be extremely helpful!!

...and I've got to shovel the car out, so off the top of my head:

Will you have a way to project your iPad? We got teacher iPads and new Apple TV's together so we can project the iPad's image for the kids. All the ones I use are free! Some of them are the "light" version, partial access, but they have been enough for me. Congrats and enjoy!

If you will be able to project, I use Educreations all the time!
Classroom Timer
Too Noisy
Name Selector

Others I use:
StoryKit
Chicktionary
Wordball
Music Game
Mancala
DocsTeach
Today's Docs
Presidents Lite
TapQuiz Maps
DrawQuest
Corny Jokes
Idioms
Pic Stitch

Videos, etc.:
Noodle Learn
Watch Know
Smithsonian
PBS
History

Currently learning:
i-ngima
Nearpod

Thanks for posting more! I really like to see other apps that I am not aware of. Do you have iPads for an entire classroom?

I have downloaded Educreations, but haven't learned how to use it yet. Do you use it to record information, let's say on the process of doing something (ex. partial sums) and then post it on a webpage or blog?

Will any of these work on the Kindle Fire, too? I'm hoping to get a couple of those for my class.

I don't have a kindle fire, so I don't know if they will work. I am thinking they are specific for iPads/apple devices; however, there are some apps that are the same or similar that can be found on GooglePlay. I don't know if GooglePlay is accessible from the Kindle. Good luck!

Any one know how you project on the whiteboard with educreation a? Do you have to be connected with a wire or is there a way to do it wirelessly?

AppsGoneFree. It is an app that offers between 6-12 apps for FREE each day. These are apps that normally cost between $.99-?? The highest I've seen personally was $49.99.

You can choose them thru that app and there is no cost. They are usually the full version and not some lite or demo version.
