I have been asked to tutor an adult who is college educated in her native language. She wants help with grammar, syntax, etc. & also would like to speak more "American"

I have only worked with students who have much lower skills. Any advice as to resources?

If she wants to speak "American" I would work on idioms. There are many websites with idioms practice. There are also workbooks with stories that contain idioms and grammar practice. I will check if I still have them at school and get you the title.

to start with written paragraphs that she composes or a business or friendly letter. That way you can work together on the visible and slower-than-speech aspects of grammar. After editing the passages, she can read it out loud to get the feel of the syntax "in her mouth."

She may also want to work on her accent which you can do while she reads aloud the passages she's written and focusing on one frequent sound substitution at a time AFTER the grammar feels comfortable.
