Push In Drama

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have been using the push in model in two schools this year and the expectation is that I should have lessons and learning scales ready before I step into the classroom. The challenge is that I only have access on line to one of the schools which are usually posted late and in reality I don't know what to expect when I come in. I have my magic bag of materials with graphic organizers and some goals but Admin has been on my back. Outside of a crystal ball, it's hard to know what the class will actually be doing even if a lesson plan has been posted.

In the past, I submitted my lesson plans on a fill in basis after the lesson and filed it. I quickly jump in on what the class is doing and work with my ELLs and it has been working fine. Now, I feel like a moving target. ugh

Have any of you been in this situation? They want me to have my lessons in by Monday at 8. It's not realistic and it's created a lot of stress.

Can you meet with the teachers ahead of time and go over their schedule and lessons and supplement what they are doing? That way you have something to show your admin and you're also supporting what they are doing in the classroom.

Thanks, that's what I attempt to do, but I also do open lab at 8 at each campus so I have little time. Since I work with grades k - 5 at both sites, my plan time is different from the others. It has been stressful. I wish administration would be more flexible since my role is so different; having K - 5 plans at two schools each week is not realistic.

Thanks for your suggestion, I appreciate your time.

However, I am no longer worried about it. I am just too tired to be worried all the time. All I do now is come in, within a second figure out what is going on, and then just jump right to it. Honestly, sometimes even a teacher is not so well prepared, so I tend to kind of pull things together. And I did try to meet with the teachers a few times, but nobody would show up. And when they did, nothing much would be accomplished. So, yeah, as soon as I come in, I just play by ear.

I wish I could offer you some advice but, if it makes you feel any better, I'm in the same boat. I used to ask classroom teachers for their plans in advance but most of them weren't able to get them to me on time. Now, I just go in and wing it. It feels like many of my skills as an ESL teacher just go to waste.

Our SPED teachers met with classroom teachers Wednesday's to plan for the next week. There is NO way you can support lessons unless you have time to prepare. When I was a specialist I put forms in the teachers mailboxes requesting a brief list of skills or page in the teachers quire to be covered the NEXT week. The forms needed to be in my mailbox Friday noon at the latest.
