I am so sorry for American students and teachers over the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education. From the information I have heard, teachers and parents will need to be strong.

Actually, yes! BC is looking to hire 1000 new teachers right now.

Many thanks for your condolences. Although I did retire this past year, this decision has been one of the lowest ebbs in my entire life.

How does BC pay? and where are the jobs?

I'm young enough, and angry enough at our government, that it wouldn't take much for me to head north!

We'll need strength

She is very, very unqualified for her position. The last few years have been very challenging and public perception of teachers is pretty negative already. Now we've got DeVos. I believe we need your sympathy and appreciate it.

thanks for your post Tchn4fun! Women can resist the destruction of the U.S. ED Department. We have a lot of power and plan to use it. I have visited Canada and loved every minute

We have not been without our problems here. In November 2016, the teachers of BC won a Supreme Court case that lingered in the courts for 14 years! The main issue was that our gov't stripped certain rights from our contract, including class size, the number of special needs students who can be in a class and the number of specialist teachers required in schools. Because of this win, many teachers will be hired in the coming year. More info. here: http://www.makeafuture.ca

and you guys are a real inspiration.

Unfortunately, we have some teachers who voted for this president, unbelievable but true nonetheless, and they're probably in love with Betsy DeVos.

And DeVos is the least of our problems down here. Jeff Sessions, Steve Bannon, Sean Spicer, and trump (refuse to capitalize his name). I don't know why we don't just hand out white hoods to trump and the entire cabinet and be done with it.

At least we have SNL. If you don't laugh, you'll cry.
