I don't think what she said was a slam to teachers at all! I agree that teachers are always told what to do and we do need to be micro-managed less and empowered by those higher ups to be able to do our job. I am so tired of being a "robot" teacher. We have scripted programs, common assessments that we must give across our district, and less and less control in our classrooms. The school she visited has fewer than half of their students meeting or approaching grade level, so it seems that new, fresh ideas might not be a terrible thing. How do we know that her observation wasn't accurate?
