Those if you that are preparing students for their second round of testing, could you share what you're doing?

How to you teach or prepare students for multiple, multiple choice questions in ELA? Students need to choose two choices in answering some questions.

I'm not sure what you mean by "second round of testing" but I do prepare my students for one round.

I basically drill into them from day 1:

*make sure you understand what the question is asking you
*read ALL of the four responses
*they are looking for the "best" response, so there could be another decent one
*eliminate the ones you know are wrong
*(when applicable) go back into the text and reread
*circle words that negate (like not)
*go back and double check your answers
*never leave a blank

We also have the two choice thing. I basically just again tell them to follow the directions on those.

The test prep. really begins on day one with me. I do feel like a lot of our students know the answers, but just blow off the test. (Yes, then we get blamed.)

Thanks for your response.

Our test is broken down into two sections. The first one is Constructive Respnse and the second one is multiple choice.

I agree, students do blow it off.

I like the steps you listed. Thanks again!

We only have one round of testing with multiple choice, short answer, and extended response questions.

We make sure that all of the tests we give have those types of questions on them so they see them as "normal" and not just something special for testing.

We also have a writing test, and that does take more practice. All year we work through the entire writing process, then have to "unteach" all of it for the test since they have to do a single draft for it.
