Consequences.

I've just come from a meeting where I was told next year's group coming up is 10x as bad as this year's (behavior-wise). So I'm starting work on classroom management plans now.
What I really need are some effective, creative, in-class consequences.
Any ideas?

Before you start thinking about consequences, do you have procedures in place? For things like:
entering the classroom
signals for restroom, question, leaving their seats
handing in work
what to do when done
lining up
traveling to and from places
dismissal
etc.
All the types of things that make your room run more smoothly. I have found that by having specific procedures for almost all the daily things makes management and behaviors much more manageable. It takes of couple of weeks of serious practice at the start of the year before they get the hang of it. I actually have my procedures typed out and refer to them each year. Procedures are not rules, but ways of getting things done. Just curious if you have procedures in place or not.

I have most of my classroom management plans already, including procedures, etc. I'm trying to keep all my consequences in-class if possible, because admin is not supporting the staff. So I'm trying to be more creative.

Good to hear you want to keep discipline in the classroom. What do you presently do to prevent discipline problems from occurring in the first place so you won't have to be more "creative"?
