Hi, everyone. I am an unemployed K teacher with a general multiple subject credential. I half heartedly applied for a literacy specialist teacher and got called for an interview. Honestly, I've always wanted to go back and get my masters in literacy so that I could possibly go into being a literacy specialist if I wanted to down the road. I have no experience and I have no idea what they are going to ask me at the interview. What should I know?

I'm a reading specialist at a K-5 school.
In my district common questions would be:
? about whatever intervention model the school uses. (My school uses an RTI model.)
? about literacy interventions you are familiar with or have used
? about adopted curriculum if you have one
? about literacy assessments you are familiar with or have used
scenarios about how you might work with general types of kids (difficult to motivate, ELLs, low fluency rate, difficulty decoding, etc).
Reading teachers at my school work at all grade levels, K-5, so you would need to show a good understanding of how literacy develops through those grade levels.
We also collaborate with classroom teachers and work with paraeducators, so being able to work with lots of different people is important.

Hope this helps!

I am a literacy specialist in a K - 5 grade school as well. I just had an interview last week, because I am looking to change school systems. They asked me basically the same questions that WG Reading mentioned in her post. They asked me 3 - 4 different scenarios of reading situations and how would I address the issues. They also wanted to know what my role was as a literacy specialist at my present school. They said the interview would be about 20 - 30 mins and they kept to that schedule. They also wanted a video of me working with some children using an intervention program. I hope this helps.
Good luck on your interview.
