Hi guys,

I'm curious. How do you organize your math block? Is it mostly whole group instruction? Guided math groups? Different formats depending on the day? How long is your math block usually?

Thanks in advance for sharing!

I really liked this set up towards the end of the year. I'm considering doing this throughout the year: http://www.talesfromoutsidetheclassr...ath-block.html

We have a core math time and a guided math time. We have an hour for core math and a half hour for guided math.

I'd like to shoot for a mix next year. Unfortunately we use engage ny and it is so difficult to do in anything but a whole group. Math didn't go well this year. The kids dreaded it and whined.

I do a mix. I start with whole group, then stations 3 days a week. The other 2 days are all whole group.

I do stations on the days I have an extra person to remediate. It worked well. The students prefer stations, I prefer whole group.

I mostly teach in rooms where it's whole-class, but I believe that the ideal way to teach math is in small groups - sorted by learning styles and paced by the kids themselves. Since that's fairly unrealistic in most schools, I vote for including small groups when you can.
