Help with upcoming interview.

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I subbed this past year and I'm now looking for an ELA position for the upcoming school year. So far I've had two interviews that made it to a second interview. One school let me know right away that I wasn't selected for the position. The other I never heard back from even after following up. I'm getting very anxious about finding a teaching position.

I was just called for a interview today that will take place in two weeks. HR specifically asked me to bring my portfolio and anything else that I feel will help me show what I've done professionally up until this point. Problem is my portfolio isn't that great in my opinion and I've been thankful that I've never been ask to bring it to an interview.

I'm nervous that because my portfolio is lacking I won't be a good candidate. Should I even be stressing about this?

Congrats on getting this upcoming interview!!

A good example of a portfolio is by Pocketful of Primary on YouTube:

I've been on interview committees before and I've never based the decision on this one component. I think a person's answers and personality are much more important.

In what areas do you feel your portfolio is lacking?

Thanks! I'll look at the link.

Honestly I think I used too many worksheets during student teaching. I have a few projects I'm proud of in the portfolio as well as my classroom management, but overall it isn't all that impressive. I feel that my evidence is lacking in some areas as well. I'm not sure how to fix these areas.

You may not have the stellar portfolio but bring your personality. Sometimes a portfolio can be a disadvantage. Do you have references and letters of recommendation? Latest evals? Bring those instead because sometimes less is more.
