As a former kindergarten teacher, I am not a fan either

One of my favorite movie kindergarten scenes is in Kindergarten Cop where Arnold steps out of the room and the other teacher tells him "Kindergarten is like the ocean, never turn your back on it" and when he goes back in the room is in chaos. But for chaos to be happening while the teacher is there? Just no!

I really dislike stuff that makes teachers look like they have no control/management or just make us look dumb/useless . Yesterday my class (4th grade) was quietly working on an assignment during reading and I went into the next classroom for a moment (adjoining door I left open) to get a student's work off the printer. Meanwhile a tutor came into my room and couldn't believe how quietly they were working even though I wasn't there (she didn't know I was just inside the next room). Um.....expectations

I think every teacher should avoid using that sight. It puts down teachers.

Does it show a surgeon in the middle of surgery turning away to book his vacation?-NO!

Does it show a judge in the middle of a trial get pull his phone out under his robe to book while the jurrors run wild? NO!

I could keep going, but I'd say teachers unite and get that ad pulled from the air and Booking.com owes teachers everywhere a major apology.

I think she should spend her vacation time learning classroom management.

Unfortunately, I've seen it several times. I think it's offensive because it portrays us as uncaring and incompetent. I sent a complaint to Booking.com.

I hate it when teachers are portrayed like this! I will not use booking.com and I also stopped watching Mike and Molly (tv) show when Molly had her meltdown in the classroom and jumped out the window to get away from the kids....sorry but it makes teachers look awful!!!

I'm a Kindergarten teacher and I don't mind it. I see it as comedy, I don't think people see it as reality. If anything, it makes me look like a superhero because my classroom doesn't look like that and people know how it could be without a competent teacher.

I like the show "teachers" too.

It could be funny and show realism at the same time. Show a frazzled kindergarten teacher doing her job not ignoring the kids. I'm not a fan!

Glad I'm not alone. It bugs me every time it plays. I agree that they could show the frazzled job of a teacher without making it look like the teacher has no control and no clue. Reminds me of some of "How I Met Your Mother" shots of Lily in her K classroom that were so unrealistic. I know comedies aren't meant to be realistic, but I think some jobs (teaching, law) should be exempt from the ridiculous approaches just because they are the occupations that have terrible reputations and people perpetuate false info about them.

Not a fan... I feel it perpetuates the 'babysitter' myth about kindergarten teachers.

I agree with bon teach. Even more than the lack of control, I think it perpetuates the myth that Kindergarten is about playing. Now we ALL know that a critical component of learning in the early grades includes educational games and activities, but I hate to see it simplified into "play."

I really dislike the commercial. Besides, I am never on my phone during class.

Some cell phone company did a commercial about a surgeon leaving the phone in the patient. So other professions are depicted. On a note about how teachers are portrayed, I loved the episode of Modern Family when Cam and Mitch wanted Lily to be in the "fun" teachers class. Lily actually liked her teacher and at one point asked her friend who was in the fun class what does blue and yellow make and her friend replied, "Blellow".I also remember an episode of Judging Amy where the main character who was a judge, went to her daughters school to rip into a teacher. The teacher actually ripped into her for not making her child accountable for her own actions. She then went on and asked her how much time she actually spent with her own daughter. Amy realized that the teacher was right. Now if it would only happen in real life. While we are on the subject of the portrayal of teachers, watch Teacher of the Year on Netflix. It's a mockumentary that only teachers will find extremely funny. ( at least I did) "The shop teacher gets nominated and I don't?"

As a teacher and now a travel agent, it is a double whammy of negative for me. The teaching part for the reasons everyone else has stated. On the travel agent side, I feel that sites like booking.com lack the personal touch and knowledge about the various destinations, it is always about price. A live agent does the work for the client for no extra cost to them, and can create unique experiences that you can't always just find online.

I saw an ad in which doctors were looking at an x-ray and saw a spot in the body part they were looking at. After they ran to operate or tell the patient, a bug crawled off of the area of the x-ray. The doctors came back to see that the x-ray was clear after all. That certainly made doctors look bad so other professions do occasionally get depicted that way.

That's exactly what I say every time I see the commercial, that she needs to work on her classroom management. I also mention that she keeps this up she won't need a vacation because she won't have a job much longer.

So much depends on a frame of mind when one watches it. When I first saw this, I thought some of the kids did not look like kindergarten kiddies. I also realized that it was a generalized statement about what teaching k is like; it is seriously the place where you better have your management down. This grade is by far the most toughest grade to teach in this era of teach them to read and write by 6 years of age . ( In my 30 years, I have taught k,1,3,4 and 5. ) And no,the know nothing management does not care if the kid has ever been in school, slept the night before or knows english.

I was also offended by the commercial. I agree with the PPs who mentioned that it makes it look like K is all about playing and that elementary teachers are babysitters.
