Leveled reading group question

I want my small group stations to be better next year! I plan on having 4 rotations...1. Weekly skill we're working on, 2. Leveled mini readers, 3. Computers and 4. Phonics/fluency.

My question is what to do with the high readers that don't need phonics instruction on their day to meet with me. I don't want them to be bored and work on skills they already have mastered.

I am trying to simplify my stations, as they were time consuming last year and a lot of planning.

What do you do with your higher kids? Any other station ideas are appreciated!

I would definitely add a Reader's Response station. The students can either respond to the day's read aloud in some form (like a reader's response letter) or you can have some leveled readers they can read quickly and respond to.

It looks like you also need a read to self rotation? That's probably one of the most important ones to have.

Also, you are missing a writing station. There are many things you can do here, for example daily prompts. Students can answer the prompt and illustrate a picture to go with their writing.

Ideas

I did a writing station this year and my kids HATED it! I had 9 different topics they could choose from in case they were stuck on a topic. It was like pulling teeth for some reason!

I also had a read to self station. They did like that one. Maybe I'll eliminate the computers (it is just a website that goes with our reading series but the kids just wanted to mess around on it).

I had a rather challenging class this year (low academically and behavior issues). Hoping next year will be better!

an excellent resource (and purchased it) from TPT! It has 180 pages and intended to be used as morning work. It has phonics review and practice (for my strugglers) and reading/writing practices for my higher kids. I will just call it "word work"!

I am going to download it tomorrow, print it and get my plan in action for next year!

If anyone still has any ideas or input I'd appreciate feedback. I have taught quite awhile but my test scores are not satisfactory to me and I want my kids to do better!

I was wondering if you have a separate time for independent reading. Or choice reading? That may be the addition to round out the other work.

Would you be willing to share the product's name so we also could buy it?

It is 4th grade Morning Work by Educrafters. I thought I had posted that, sorry! I paid $18.95 with my TpT discount (normal price 19.95)!

I am moving down to 4th grade from 5th grade this year and I will have gifted students. I plan to use some of the same reading passages as I did with my 5th graders to do close reading. There are several free articles with question sets that you can get on readworks.org.

I have used a word study approach for my higher kids- focusing on Greek and Latin roots. They loved it!

Writing station

My kids liked the writing station I used. Have you tried including different types of stationery and writing utensils? I would usually have a vocabulary sheet where they had to write an antonym, synonym, draw a picture of it, write it in a sentence to show what it means. Other times they could write letters, make cards, work on spelling using the word wall.
