Still time to get a full-time job for this school year?

It's been a pretty disappointing application season for me. I've had two interviews that made it to second round, references checked, and then no word either way from one district and a rejection very soon after the reference check from another. I applied to a few other districts, but there were very few positions open in my area this year and they were quickly filled.

I do have 2 positions that I applied to this weekend that I'm hoping will lead to something. One is at a district where a friend's father works and they said they would put a good word in for me, but it is a very sought after district to work in, in my area.

Has anyone here found a job more easily within a week or two away from school? This is what it's looking like for me right now. I subbed all last year and would obviously like a full-time position, but if I need to sub again I will. I'm feeling very defeated right now, but I'm trying to stay positive.

If there are other districts in your area that you did not sub in last year, you may want to apply to sub there this year. This is a good way to get out there and meet other principals and network if they have openings in the future, they already know you.

I haven't, but my school has hired people that close to school and closer every year I've been there. You might have to be more open to positions you wouldn't necessarily have as your first choice, though.

My district has hired people right before the start of the school year, and in many cases, right after the school year starts, every year. So yes, there might still be positions coming up that they are in a hurry to hire for.

Even after the school year starts, things happen where people need to leave the job mid year, and the job opens up as a long term sub, and often the person does not come back. When that happens, you have a good shot at that job because they already know you.

I know it's hard, but keep up the positive attitude and just keep going.

I have a friend who literally got hired 2 days before school started last year. She had to scramble to get her room ready and everything, but it is a possibility. My college professors told us that jobs start opening in April, and stay consistent until July-ish. Then, the job market comes to a halt because many administrators are on vacation. When August comes around, jobs open up again, because they are trying to fill in for those last minute resignations.

Good luck to you!

My last job, I was hired the last week of October, and another job prior to that, the first week of November. There's still time!
