Music Playlist for Fifth Graders?

Hello, Folks.

Just wondering if you use music in your class at all? I know the kids love music, but I just don't know the popular titles/appropriate lyrics that I could be playing as background music.

Any suggestions?
Thanks...

I know a teacher in my building that will put on "Radio Disney" for a reward. She brings it up on her computer and plays it that way. I don't know if it will be blocked in your building, though.

Check out Vitamin String Quartet. They do instrumental versions of popular songs. The kids love it, and you don't need to worry about censoring lyrics

I love playing music in my fifth grade classroom. I use classical and jazz instrumentals, which are very relaxing, and I use the KidzBop CDs for clean kid friendly versions of popular and upbeat songs. My students love to sing-along so I limit those to transitions, indoor recess, or after lunch to perk them back up.

I always have music playing in the background in my room. I get most of mine from YouTube. I use mainly these videos.

I teach ELA and Social Studies so I created playlists on YouTube and play those as well. My ELA list has songs about nouns, verbs, sentences, main idea, etc. Social Studies has patriotic songs, 50 states songs, etc.

If I play "regular music" its from Pandora. they have several kid friendly channels or they get to listen to classic rock or 90's alt.

If you have a Spotify account, there is a playlist Classroom Music (Acoustic) and it is popular songs that play on the radio, but without the lyrics, just the instruments. It's songs they like to listen to at home or in the car but I don't have to worry about inappropriate lyrics! (If you just have a free account then you need to be careful about the ads, sometimes there are inappropriate songs played between songs. Getting a subscription removes the ads)

For soft background music I use the 3 hour long Disney Piano music. I can leave it on as long as needed. I even put it on in my planning hour.
