I am new to teaching 4th grade and teaching in public school. Could anyone help me get started as far as what kind of morning work do you give your students. What are good classroom rules? Could you give me a sample lesson plan

I use Drops in the Bucket for math morning work. The company is "FROG Publications. Good review, been using it for years.

If you are in a public school, your district probably has a math program.

Every math program I have ever used begins the lesson with some type of mental math or math review problems. I typed these so they could be copied/put on student desktops, and used them as morning work. My first class of the day was math so after students completed them (and I was done doing attendance and lunch count), we could do a quick check and move right into the lesson.

If I was still working on "beginning of the day" stuff, students took out a book to read until I was ready to begin the math lesson.

1. Any unfinished work from the previous day
2. page in handwriting book, read a book, or short extra math page that goes with the current unit
3. Study for upcoming quiz or test or play one of our current math games

I usually have 2-3 items listed daily in the order seen above so no student is left without something meaningful to do.

On Teachers Pay Teachers they have worksheets that give an excellent review for both LA and Math. I give them 15 min and then go over it together. I call this "bellwork". Paragraph corrections are also helpful.
