Welp, we got crazy mom this year

You know how sometimes you meet someone and right away your internal alarm starts screaming? Yep, that's her. She opened the door a bit disheveled (not bad, but not what you expect when meeting your kid's teachers for the first time at your home!), and right away starts going in on how she wanted her dd in pre-k but decided heck, might as well try out K since she got in. Little darling turns 5 the first week of school. Then she proceeds to tell us how little darling has bathroom issues and gets really angry to the point where it's scary . Little darling finally comes down to meet us in her undies. She was cute and talked to me but couldn't even answer "How old are you going to be on your birthday?" Meanwhile mom is telling my partner their life story. And mentions again, probably 2 or 3 more times, how little darling is so young and really should be in pre-k. As we're leaving she says "Well, she can always just repeat kindergarten, right?"

We couldn't figure out if mom was drunk or high or heavily medicated or... ?

This should be interesting!

Oh Lord...one of those moms! And I truly detest how casually people bring up repeating Kinder. Like it is no big deal.

I'm sending vibes mom is super un-involved!

Oh no! I think home visits would bring out the crazy.

It is not good how many parents think NOTHING of repeating Kindergarten. Is it because it is free and they think they get a free year? I have had parents voice that, "Well since we don't pay for Kindergarten we will try it this year and then repeat it next year if we need to."

Good luck. I guess if the girl comes to school dressed you already made a difference!

I guess I'm not really shocked....that's how all my home visits go. I teach in a Title 1 school and most of the houses I go in, I'm lucky if there's even a clean spot for me to sit down.

I understand what you're saying...but I would think of it more as an opportunity to love on that little girl and help her make as much progress as possible.
