Clip to ScrapBook #1

Our high school upgraded to something newer and we were given a class set of the hand-me-down chromebooks. They are 1.5 years old so am not sure why the HS needed to upgrade but that is another issue...

I have some reservations about implementing these in my 2Nd grade classroom. I have better than basic computer skills but I am starting to panic. I can't get done what needs to be covered in the curriculum...ugh. Am I panicking unnecessarily? Will I eventually say "how did I ever get along without these chromebooks?"?

How do you use technology in your grade 2 room?

I use a few of them in my grade one class. We share with 3 grade levels, so I've been taking out 5 a day to use for a center rotation during math workshop.

They are easy to use. You do need to teach them how to log on, but once they can do that, you can do so much with them. My go to is xtramath.org so they can practice their facts.

Ours had a default password, so I set the the kids' google accounts so they could log on easily with their student number. They all have a number that follows them until they graduate.

Don't be afraid of them- you'll love them!

Two years ago our school started 1:1 chrome books in second grade. Both kids and teacher love it. Teacher had Google training and uses Google classroom. After initial few weeks getting everyone used to them, they use for all their writing, math practice. Writing conferences are much easier to accomplish.

Third grade teacher is thrilled that kids come in familiar with chrome book.

Good luck!

Our county went 1:1 with Chromebooks this year and I'm at a total loss as to what to do. Any suggestions as to where to start?

I will try to update as we get going. We all can share what works. We don't have them in our room yet.

So far we've used them for better access to AR testing, small group math work at xtramath.org, lesson tests on the website for our reading series, and our school is now purchasing Mobymax so we will be trying that soon.
I know I am not using the full potential but that's where we stand right now.

My district has 1:1 Chromebooks in grades 2 to high school. K and 1 share a set. We have state testing in third grade on the Chromebooks.
-get them typing, use Dance Mat typing, typing club or other games
-if kids have their own login username and password, it takes a long time to just learn that, spend a period a day doing that
-Google Docs: they can type stories, answer questions
-Kid Rex is a kid friendly search engine, have them look up topics you are working on
Kahoot: great review game
-if your textbooks are online, use the Chromebooks to log in
-there are many websites in math and la to use to reinforce skills
-Readworks digital: free to register
You will get used to using them. We were all nervous at first. I tried one new thing every few weeks. I now use many different things.
