Principal timing

So I had to evacuate my classroom because of safety issues, had a kid hit and try to choke me and had a parent scream at me about her kid's missing toy.

Not my worst day, but it was one where I just needed to go home.

Principal calls me in to help fill out paperwork.

Throws out that I need to do restorative circles to get connected to kids. Fine.

Oh and I am not doing a bad job, but do I really want to be here? She said principals have to have this conversation with all the self-contained special ed teachers. Oh and by the way, I am doing too much by coming in an hour early.

Really, we had to have this conversation today? Really?

Sigh.

She said if I want to transfer at the end of the year, let her know.

Thanks.

What an odd thing to say. Wouldn't she/the school be royally screwed if you left? What's her end game here?

Your P sounds like a pain. I'm sorry for your hard day - I know what those are like. I've never had an admin ask me if I really wanted to be there, though - so rude. Surely they must know there aren't enough of us who will actually do that job. Maybe I'm hearing that wrong and she was just looking out for you? But really just dumb timing.

Yeah, I wondered if she was looking out for me too.

If she was, it sure did not feel like it.

I'm usually not one to involve administration in classroom issues, but there is a lot going on with that room that administration needs to step in and handle (aides, unmedicated kids, parents/kids who don't like change, etc.).

Maybe she is angry at having to deal with it?
