Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello,
Looking to integrate more songs within my day. I have a few for days of the week, months of the year, and line up. Looking more to transition from center to center , or maybe even for math.

Thanks

I use "The World is a Rainbow" by Greg and Steve for our clean up song (perfect length plus it talks about working together). We also sing the number rock (again by Greg and Steve) right now to start off our math block. There are a ton on youtube that I use for different math concepts, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. And every year my kid's favorite silly song is "I am a Pizza" by Charlotte Diamond. I also love the sight word songs by Miss Molly on youtube - they are slow and mellow so I put them on a lot when the kids are working.

Shockingly, I use the same songs Sbkangas suggests.

My kids also love Slippery Fish and Mosquito. I have choreography that goes with all of those.

Check out Scratch Garden. Those songs are AMAZING and support academic goals. Skip counting, pattern recognition, spelling, you name it. I LOVE Scratch Garden!

Also, Add with a Pirate and Subtract with a Pirate are huge hits with my kids every year. The Freeze Dance is a classic. Great for following directions. I also use position cards with this...when the music stops, I hold up a card with a stick figure and the kids have to not only stop, but also mimic the pose on the card.

You can find all these on YouTube.

Zia - I love the card idea! Totally going to steal it. Thanks!

ETA: I had never heard of Scratch Garden so just looked some of them up. I love kid videos that actually make me laugh! I think we are going to need to watch some of these during rest time next week. Thanks!!

I did a quick search for the pose cards and didn't find the exact ones I use, but the pic below is representative. If you wanted, I would be willing to scan mine and email them to you.

This is was my kids' favorite Scratch Garden song last year. Salamander just cracked them up! LINK

We use Total Sight Words on youtube to learn our sight words so I play that playlist a lot. Every day I put the playlist on shuffle while my students eat breakfast and they seem to sing along as they eat.

Heidi Songs: she has a very very useful cd called Classroom Management . We have learned the "Potty Song"."Red,White and Blue" and Days of the Week" so far. Her Letters and Sounds music is fabulous as well. "The Big Numbers Song" and "Let's Count to 20" by Dream English Kids is what we work on every year too.

I love all the songs and videos available on YouTube, but don't forget the old standards. There is a vital brain connection when the teacher just sings with the children. Sing your morning greeting song, sing them to transitions, sing with them to end your day. Just sing....they won't care if your voice isn't stage ready!
