Would you rather be all Title or targeted?
Currently, I'm the only Title 1 teacher in my school and it can be hard because I don't go into all the classrooms. We are an all Title school (so far) and so I don't have to do the testing and such and the permission, but sometimes I think I would rather be targeted so that I can pull kids into my room. I was in the classroom for about 10 years and I really miss having the kids in my room.

However, I know I don't have to do progress reports and testing for Title 1.

Just wondering what you all think...would you rather...

Targeted vs Schoolwide

We went from targeted to schoolwide about six years ago. Schoolwide is so much easier in my opinion.

I'm not understanding why you can't do pullout? I do pullout with many small groups through out the day. The students come to my classroom.

I'm thinking my admin wants them to be completely within the classroom or the hallway. Some teachers prefer if I go out of the room because of noise level. But now that we are all Title, I can bring anyone into my room. I don't bring the younger grades in my room because I want to in their classroom so I can also help with management. The older ones can come to my room.

We are schoolwide and I, too, pull groups into my room. Because of the schoolwide classification, though, these groups can be somewhat fluid. In some cases I'll pull a particular group for just a week to work on a certain skill. Usually the groups are much more consistent throughout the year, but adding in a student is as simple as the teacher suggesting that a child might benefit from more support. One of us will call and talk it over with parents and that's it. We still do a multi-criteria identification process for all students that includes several assessments, but it's by choice that we do this. Schoolwide seems to be the way to go, in my opinion.

I'm starting to think so too. I can work with any kiddo without permission. I'm still trying to figure some of this out as I still deal with behaviors and other things happening in the school.
