What to Do?

Right now I'm a para for autistic preschoolers at the school I was at last year. I didn't get a teaching job. A principal leaves me a message Friday about an intervention tutoring type position (more what I want to do). He tells me to call him even if it's on the weekend. I call him on my lunch break Friday. Get voicemail. I tell him to call me before 12 or after 3pm (as I can talk then). No reply. I call again midday Saturday. Leave message (but click 1 to resend a new message as I didn't like my first one). Not 100% it sent. No reply again.

Debating what to do now. Call again now? Call the school tomorrow?

Getting frustrated that he hasn't called me back yet. I know weekends are his time, he might not be thinking to call me, but he did say call me even if it's on the weekend.

What do you suggest? TIA!

Do you have an email address for the principal? If so, send an email. I would call the school tomorrow to talk with him. He may even return your call this evening as he may have been out of town. Hope your message was something like :"Thanks, Mr. Principal, for calling. I am very interested in the position. Please let me know about the position and what it entails. I look forward to hearing from you." Hope it all works out for you.

I did leave a message very similar to that.

You would email too?

I'm crying now! I just want my big break...for it all to get better.

Personally, I'd leave it...

I know you want this job and how disappointed you would be if you didn't get it, but I would suggest not calling again and waiting on him. Unfortunately, he could have found someone else. I think calling again would be too "needy" or "pesty", in my opinion. Remember that "Everything Happens for a Reason" and "If it's meant to be, it will be." I think the ball is in the principal's court right now.

Do you have the principal's e-mail? MAYBE, you could send a very nice, understanding e-mail. However, after that, I would definitely LET IT BE and wait.

Maybe something like

Dear ____________,

This is PinkSparkle, who you contacted about the intervention job. I wanted to let you know that I am interested and if the position is still available, I would love to talk to you about it. I understand that you are probably busy with your family this weekend, as well as with the start of the school year, so I apologize for contacting you during this busy time. However, if the position is still available, please contact me at a time that works for you. Thank you for thinking of me and best of luck this school year!

PinkSparkle

Personally, I'd still be hesitant about the e-mail and I personally would not send an e-mail. I'd leave it up to him to contact you again. However, if you think an e-mail might make you feel better about the whole situation, you could send one. I think the key is to make it very nice/polite, supportive, and understanding. You want the principal to see you as an understanding, polite, and flexible person. However, after sending the e-mail, you definitely need to leave it and let it be in his court. Just my opinion. Good luck.

If you have any doubts that your message didn't get left, call again and leave a second (or first) message. Then, find something to do to take your mind off of it. Go out and walk/ride/exercise/watch a movie - whatever to get your mind busy on something else. Sometimes, girl, you kill yourself with overthinking things.

I hope it works out and this is a job offer, but until you know you can't drive yourself crazy.

I know he said to call even if it's the weekend, but today is a holiday. I'd wait. You left a message Friday and possibly again Saturday. If you don't hear from him tomorrow, then maybe swing by the school and talk to him. Tell him you weren't sure if the message went through, and you wanted him to know you were interested.

I'd email him one time and then that's it. You've seemed to have done enough without going overboard to try to reach him.

Call school tomorrow to speak with P.

Or wait for his call.

I am waiting on an interview, right now. It's this Wednesday. I completed the application, last May! I got a call two weeks ago that they were ready to interview me. We set-up the date the week before Labor Day, and then two days before the interview it was postponed.

The school secretary called to schedule a new interview, this week, after Labor Day. She apologized and said she got her calendar mixed up (I believe that because the dates she was giving me to consider didn't match the days of the week we're in now).

Anyway, I've been keeping busy... I've added 5 more schools to my preferred listed (and I've been to or accepted jobs from 3 of the new schools so far).

I was tempted to ask the school secretary about my application, but decided not to... I decided that it was early in the school year and the administration was trying to let the 'dust settle.' Having this job would be great because I drop my grand children at the school each morning.
I am also enjoying substituting at different schools in two counties.

Whoops! Meant to update. Got email yesterday inviting me to teach a lesson this Friday.

Lesson needs to be on decoding/sight words for 3-4 students (20-35 mins). So I'm going to do an -at word family lesson using sound/elkonin boxes and tapping out sounds. Will then have them read the -at word paper book and at end of book they have to write beginning sound of the -at words.

If time permits, they'll read -at word sentences or -at words on cards.

Thanks, Grace! short version of the story was it went really well. Principal is calling references next week. He said he's moving forward in the process but can't formally offer me anything as there's a process. He did mention the next after that is a hiring packet. He told me to email him references next week. I will do so Sunday night.

Thanks for asking!
