I have parents in my class who are refusing to have their child evaluated, what is the next step? I work in a private school, what happens in the public school system if they refuse?

Parents must provide consent to evaluate. Even in public schools.

If they refuse and I feel like the child truly has a significant diagnosis, I'll invite them to observe in the classroom to better see the support their child requires during the day compared to peers. I might invite our principal, speech therapist, psychologist, etc.. to the conference so that everyone can provide input.

If I feel like it's just a delay, then I drop it and continue to provide support in class and send home extra feedback & ideas for how to support their child at home throughout the year.
