Has anyone ever started their math block with small groups that reviewed the skill from the day before and then did whole group? I might have to d it. What do people think? I'm not sure if my kid will get confused and I might too. Thanks.

I have never tried that, but I think it could work!

While you work with the small group, the rest of the class could be doing a quick review of the topic from the day before. Our math program has a CCSS quick check and a think problem from the lesson before at the start of the lesson.

Or students can work in a math journal whole you work with the small group?

Guided Math Groups

Yes, before I retired we were using guided reading and guided math groups. The group time was used for review of previous lesson and the day's lesson. Then they did their practice work for homework. Some kids just do better with small groups instruction.

Lots of ideas here.
