Kicked out due to low grades?

My mom's friend's daughter attends a magnet school in Louisiana. She has stated that the teacher just told her that her daughter is in jeopardy for being removed from the school due to low reading scores. From what I know, this is a public magnet school so how is that possible? I've never heard of this. I'm trying to get more information. Any ideas?

It's a magnet school. They can indeed kick her out in one of two ways:

1. It is not her home school. Therefore, they simply deny the transfer.

2. It is her home school, but has a separate magnet program. In which case, they remove from the program and place her in a non-magnet class.

The magnet schools in our district have to keep the student the entire school year unless the child is a discipline problem.

only take students who are highly recommended here, and the curriculum has higher expectations/ grading system.

One young lady was kicked out of a well-respected Magnet school, here, because she refused to do the work. The young lady stated that she could get by with B's without studying in the regular school, but at the magnet school she had to study to keep up! She said it was too much of a hassle! What a sad attitude...

Where I live, attending a magnet school is an honor and a privilege. Students who do not maintain the expected standards can be removed and returned to their home school at any time.

I'm in Louisiana. At least in my district, students can be removed from magnet programs if their grades drop. My school usually only does this at the end of the year; the student just isn't allowed back in the next year. However, they start giving warnings very early so that the family can work with the student to turn things around. If they are removed from the program, they go back to regular classes at their home school.

One more thing: I just reread your post. Low reading scores? She probably would not have been admitted in the first place here. You can't be in magnet and remediation at the same time.
