Clip to ScrapBook #1

Any good ideas for informational text that I can write about each week or every two weeks? I am doing an animal writing but that will take 3-4 weeks, so I need a few more ideas to be able to do in-between Thanks.

Why not select a social studies or science topic that you have already studied like maps or the states of matter. Then while they are writing they are also review another subject area.

On TPT there are some good informational paired passages by Ashleigh educational journey that have questions for extended responses like compare/contrast etc. worth checking out

Opinion writing?

Once when we were studying plant parts I asked them to pick the plant part that was the most important to the survival of the plant and write an opinion paper defending their choice. I liked it because it was a different kind of writing, but the reading and research they did was informational.

We also did different land forms (a social studies standard). They liked that and added pictures to make it fun.

Also we used to do how-to books. It had to be a subject they already knew about (how to play soccer, how to bake cookies, etc.).
