I'm starting a field placement on Tuesday. I will be in a fourth grade classroom and this will be the highest grade I've ever been in. Any advice on anything involving fourth grade?

I wouldn't worry about being in an upper elementary class. I currently am in a fifth grade classroom and I had the same fears as well. However, fifth grade is an amazing grade and I learned how independent they are. For any advice I would tell you to guide students as much as you can rather than doing the work for them. I have noticed students will try and ask for help so they get the right answer. Instead have them solve it with your guidance but make sure they are getting the answer themselves. Also, encouraging them and creating relationships with them will help you see if fourth grade is the grade for you to teach in the future. Get to know the students before you decide if you do not like fourth grade.
