Any special needs issues or unusual student info should be written in advance and shared with subs. Also, seating charts should be clear and updated. In addition, I want to know your policy on cell phones, listening to music, leaving the classroom and use of chromebooks when done with work.

They should have a list of students with allergies and have procedures written out for any sort of drill that may happen. They should also leave notes of who they like to run things such as attendance or other notes to the front office. They should leave whatever class the students have for encore. They should leave extra work just in case. They should leave notes about assistants and SPED assistants who come into the classroom. There's so much that they can leave. Anything and any details help!

Another way of answering this question is what regulars should NOT leave you with and I don't mean to sound demanding. You'll find these answers in other threads as well:
-grading papers (depending on experience or comfort level)
-complicated lesson plans (again depending on experience or comfort level) or
-no lesson plans (regardless of experience)
-bulletin board change
-monitoring intake of $ for any reason. This is just too tricky IMO.

I leave all of that information. I also leave the names of reliable kids, kids that need to go for meds (and when), what to do and where to go in fire alarms, tornado drills and lockdowns among other things.

But on the flip side, don’t leave me a note and tell me the class was fine when students were:
1) climbing on bathroom stalls
2) talking each other to “suck my d!ck”
3) throwing math manipulatives across the room
4) screaming and just generally acting like jerks especially when I specifically ask for names of kids making good choices and poor choices.

I know my class, I won’t think you any less competent if you tell me truthfully how the day went. But I want to consequence/reward appropriately.
