Clip to ScrapBook #1

two weeks ago letting parents know details of the project due tomorrow. One parent is asking me what project and she knows nothing of it. She does this every time and in every quarter. This will be for a grade and a good 98% of my class turns the projects in.

The child has told her parents that they hold her back from doing what she needs to do in class. She also is one out of only two in my class whom doesn't take AR test. This is just so you get a real picture of these parents. They basically do nothing with the child.

This is an accelerated kindergarten class.

What should I do that is fair for my whole class vs. this child's project/grade?

I would never send anything home with a kindergartener that would affect his or her grade. Those kind of projects should be done in class, in my opinion. In this situation, I would provide the child with an extra credit opportunity--something she could complete in class.

Maybe the parents donít understand how to help her complete the project and donít feel comfortable asking you for help. But whatever the case be you could allow her to complete parts of the project during any down time in the classroom (I know there probably is not any). So maybe suggest to the parents that they could drop her off early to school or stay late if she needs a space to work to make sure she gets the project done. Good luck! Hope everything works out!

I always do a contract and have parent and student sign when the project is assigned, then they can't say they didn't know...

You know this means the parents do the project, right? Graded work should be completed in class so you know what the student is able to do.
