Anyone have suggestions for nonfiction books that could be used in book clubs at the fifth grade level? (And as you know 5th grade level really means reading levels up to 2 grade levels below and above).

I work with ELL and intensive readers and have used Magic Treehouse Fact Tracker books in book clubs with 5th graders. The American Revolution one pairs well with their social studies focus for the spring at my school. I have also used them paired with the fiction Magic Tree House book as a unit together (Dinosaurs Before Dark & Dinosaurs Fact Tracker, etc).
You can "look inside" them if you find some of the titles on Amazon to get an idea of the structure and reading level.
There are tons of titles and they are relatively inexpensive so you could provide choice based upon student interest.

How about biographies? They could even read different ones and discuss common themes of how people achieve: perseverance and hard work, etc.

I teach 3rd but I use The Who Was series for my Non-Fiction book clubs.
They are a good length and my kids always love them.

I second the Magic Tree House Fact Trackers as well.
