By coincidence I saw this on Twitter from Edutopia, I think. I was just having a discussion with a friend at school today. I know we are supposed to make the effort to say all sorts of positive things to students but it's not me. I greet each one. I say goodbye to each one. I always thank them for turning in their work. But mostly I make fun of them. It's the only thing I do quite well. Giving them compliments. It's just not me and I don't know there's any way to make it me and have any chance of coming off as genuine. But look at that list. Does anyone here think any teacher can give some of these compliments? I seriously doubt it.

Half of them would get you sent to the office for inappropriate comments! 😂

I was thinking the same thing as Mom teach! I'd be seriously creeped out if someone said some of these to me.

I was not expecting that! Some of those seem like cheesy pick-up lines. Telling a student that his/her belly button is adorable does not seem appropriate in any situation (just an example...there were so many more).

The one about the "bellybutton" ???? I would NEVER say that to ANYONE!

I'll pass on that list!

Most of them sound disingenuous. If ever I needed a list of compliments, this list isn't it. And if I heard one of these compliments from someone, I might just have to punch them or at least laugh out loud.
