I haven't done this chore in awhile but being that I am on the Sunshine committee, I had to sign up. Now I have to think of gifts for a person who likes pastries, ice cream, desserts, running, reading, hiking, travel, Jamba Juice,Starbucks Green Tea Latte and chocolate. She does not like clutter or candles though. Neither do I.

I wrote that I basically like sweet stuff, reading, birding and travel.

What are your cheap gift ideas? I am thinking gift certificates and chocolate candy. I am going to think positively and have some fun with it.

I so dislike receiving gifts that are frequently of little use to me that I give a small donation in the person's name to a nonprofit that is of interest to the receiver. Literacy Council, Siera Club, Animal Shelter, etc.

anna, I think you picked me--that's practically my Secret Santa list!

A pair of running socks with the compression bands (can never have too many!) hiking socks, a water bottle, a fancy brownie from a bakery, a small tub of body butter, leukotape sports tape, moleskin, S'mores ingredients...just a few ideas of things she will like and aren't cluttery knick knacks, since she is me!

To add to the list of ideasóa Starbucks gift card and maybe a fun magazine?

I think the likes/dislikes surveys are tricky. Iím going to do very inexpensive gifts during the week and then a larger gift on Friday since the overall budget is so low. Who wants a bunch of cheap junk?

Monday: red and green Expo markers (new, but taken from my stash)
Tuesday: a basket of blood oranges from my tree
Wednesday: a couple packages of hand warmers
Thursday: a nice chocolate bar (she said she likes chocolate)
Friday: a bookmark and an amazon gift card for a new book (she said she likes to read)

I have little poems that go on the gift tags each day and Iíll wrap them with pretty ribbon this weekend so itís all set up to go. Have fun with it, but do it all at once so itís not stressful!

I'm glad that my school stopped doing Secret Santa many years ago. It was too much to shop for that stuff at an already busy time of year.

The PTA started a cookie event instead. The parents made all the cookies, and teachers got to take home a big bag of them. We didn't have to bake anything. It was awesome.

I"m enjoying reading the responses! Our secret santa is next week. I always enjoy the little treats but sometimes it's hit or miss. I love some of the suggestions I've heard here!

This year we did a more extensive SS sheet for participants. Included likes and dislikes ó but included relatively inexpensive things like favorite candy bar, gum, salty snack sweet snack, healthy snack, etc. Also favorite scent, chapstick flavor ó stuff like that. We do ours for 3 weeks ó after Thanksgiving up until the Chistmas break. We ask that you treat your person 2-3 times each week and the limit to spend is 20 dollars. It seems to be working better this year!

My secret santa person luckily is not only a coworker, but a friend. We have a $10-15 limit on gifts. She loves coffee, so I have bought her a pair of coffee-themed socks, $5 gift card to Starbucks, and espresso beans from a specialty candy shop. I also will be giving her a Butterfinger and Dr. Pepper (some other favorites).

I'm also a runner and always love to get running socks. If she runs at night there are lots of reflective clip on type things to buy that aren't too expensive. I like to have a few to leave in my car.
