I have the boy of a set of fraternal twins (boy and girl). My 6th graders tried to convince me today that they are identical twins because they look exactly alike. Ummm it was so hard to not say I bet there's one area where they look pretty different. Some finally understood what identical and fraternal mean and there's no way for a boy and girl to ever be identical twins, but I know there are still some sad 11 year olds that still don't get it.

I'd go with both and lean heavy for sad. I hope the students understand soon the difference.

When my boy/girl twins were born one of my aunts asked me if they were identical. I nicely said they had some significant differences under their diapers. Then I laughed and so did she. The whole family thought it was really funny. She was in her 40s at the time.

I can not even begin to count the number of adults (some even in doctor's offices ) who asked if my boy/girl twins were identical.
