We take up a collection for our custodian and secretary. Besides donating to that, I do not give gifts to anyone else in the building. My gift to my admin is doing my job each day and leaving them alone

I give something small to my team mates.

My partners and I take up a collection and get something for the secretaries. We're on our 10th and 11th (?) custodians this year. Needless to say, we won't be getting them anything.

I'm with Jackie, my present to my admin is doing my job and leaving them alone. Their gift to me is leaving me alone.

Paras-Yes.
Grade level colleagues-Yes.
Other-I give gifts to my room parents.

I give the office staff (2 secretaries, 2 principals, nurse, and couselor) a plate of Christmas goodies.

My coworkers on my hall get a small gift.

Custodian: I woud if we had a conisitent one. Our wonderful lady retired 2 years ago and have had a string of subs since then. No one wants a 4 hour job apparently.

I usually give my p and sometimes office staff a pretty Christmas plant: either a poinsettia or an orchid in a ceramic pot (Target usually has these to give around Christmas for about $10).

My teammates get a plate of goodies, loaf of bread and a pretty scarf/hat/socks—something cozy!

Nope. Just cards. Most principals give the staff a small gift though.

When I was teaching, I would gift to:
* my immediate co-workers--something around $10.
* any para who works directly with me--same amount.
* cards with a sweet attached to special friends at school who aren't on my
grade level.
* chip in on a team gift to our custodian who does our rooms. He's a pretty
special guy and takes very good care of us. We really just love him.
* my room mother who organizes everything

We also give coupon books to the kids. It has about eight coupons ranging from a homework free night, lunch in the classroom with two friends, office helper for 20 minutes (deliver or sort mail, run errands, make announcements--the office clerk enjoys it and tells us she looks forward to her guest).

Gifts at School

Principal-I usually give my principal a box of nice chocolates.

Vice Principal-N/A

Secretary-We have 2 secretaries and one office aide. I give them something small. This year it's peppermint hand soap with a candy cane. I have also gone in with a group of teachers and gotten them nicer gifts over the years.

Custodian-Our school social committee gives the custodians and cafeteria workers a gift from the staff, so I don't buy anything special. Years back I was particularly close to one of the custodians. I always gave her something more like candy or a lottery ticket.

Paras-N/A

Grade level colleagues-I consider my grade level colleagues good friends. I always get them something. Gift cards, theme gifts, etc.

Other-I also exchange with the librarian--usually something small and under 10$

I give a nice gift to my para, who I could not function without! I am grateful for her assistance, she's an incredible help and she is worth twice what she is paid. Not only that, she has come to be a good friend to me.

That is the only gift I give.

A coworker asked for the staff to donate for a gift for our principal. I have never given a principal a gift before. I mean they make like $40 000 more than me!! I was just curious if it was common or uncommon.

I do give our secretary a small gift and if I have an aide, I would buy them something too.

My teammates and I decided a few years ago that we would do a "treat day" instead of trying to buy each other little gifts. We have a team meeting once per week and for our last meeting before break, we'll all bring treats and basically just chat/relax. I really enjoy it and think it's better than receiving some trinket.

It honestly wouldn't even occur to me to buy something for admins, secretaries, or custodians. I'd feel like I was brown nosing if I bought something for admin.

In previous years I did buy something for my para, partially because she always bought me something! I'm not happy with my para this year, so I'm not planning on doing anything.

I always gave small gifts to my team. One got more than others but we have become best friends.

Sometimes office staff if I found something fun. Usually a card with heartfelt thanks acknowledging all they do. We have a fun, crazy office team.

Custodians got a bottle of wine because I liked them and no one ever appreciates them.

We just give to our grade level.

We also give our custodians the leftover food from the Christmas party.

Principal- nothing
Vice Principal- n/a
Secretary- nothing
Custodian- nothing - maybe a card
Paras- $15 gift
Grade level colleagues- $15 gift
Other-none

I only give the 2 gifts because I consider them friends as much as anything else. I wouldn't mind doing something for the receptionist and secretary, but if I did them I would have to do the p, the nurse and the nurse's aid. We usually take a cash donation for later in the year, so I will give to that at that time. Will put a card on their desks.

I think we go over board. Most of us don't need candy or more crapola. It just makes us feel good. Can't we feel good with words of appreciation? Our staff is bringing treats for the 12 days before Christmas that none of us need, either. I enjoy the camaraderie, but some people don't even stay around to share the treats. So, what is the purpose?

Yeah, I am a grinch.

Yes to all of the above. As well as our librarian.

I usually do homemade things - vanilla, body cream, truffles, or something like that. Nothing big, but definitely a little gift and a heartfelt card.

Everyone likes to be thought of and appreciated.
