Classroom surprise visit

I have a parent whom is quite odd. He has been spoken to for touching kids inappropriately. He now works for our sister middle school as a coach but feels he can walk in my classroom every so often to give his kid a hug and a kiss . I completely understand this, but at the same time, never knew he was coming in my classroom and completely disrupts just barging in. He didn't even check in through the front office, because he has a scanner to get in through the locked doors.

Should I say something to him, send him an email or should I just let admin know?

Thanks in advance

I believe in talking to a colleague first. They may not realize how disruptive they are being. You are probably very polite and even smile when he comes in. Maybe say something like, "it's nice that you can visit your child, but I've noticed it's starting to disrupt my class when you come in unannounced." Then ask if he'd like to volunteer or read to the class once in awhile. But put a stop to the interruptions. Good luck!

We have an open door policy at my school, so that wouldn't even trip my alarms.

If it bugs you, first talk to him about it, not admin.

What is your school policy...if he is breaking it I would contact admin. I have had teacher/parents hit staff with their vehicle in the parking lot. I know that is not the norm, but I am very cautious. Trust your instincts.
