Just finished this crocheted rug using strips from old sheets. Great fun and not only easy to construct but to also finish.

That is awesome! I love that you used old sheets. Great use of fabric.

Is that a double crochet pattern with a picot edging?

Love it! Love the colors, they go together perfectly!

I've just started crocheting, I love seeing your rug. I may try one too...after I clean out the linen closet!

Beach Glass, I LOVE your work! This brought back memories of my grandma as she crotched rugs also! One of her favourite things to use was plastic grocery bags. She would crochet outdoor rugs with the bags after she cut it into a long strip. I think our entire neighbourhood had her outdoor rugs!

Crocheted Rug Details

Yes, it is a double crochet. My strips were 1 1/2" wide. I found LOTS of help online.

This site has a great formula for figuring how long to make your chain to get the desired finished size:

http://www.sustainablebabysteps.com/...tructions.html

This youtube video gives GREAT directions for how to take a sheet and create one, long, uninterrupted strip. I've tried different methods, and this one is, in my opinion, allows for the smoothest seams.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPlXk7HP2b4

The finished edge is a type of picot that created a bit of a ruffle:

*Chain 3, double crochet in same chain, skip 1 stitch and slip stitch *. Repeat from * around rug.

My next challenge is to figure out how to prevent the obvious "step" when switching to the next color. There are directions; I just need to figure them out and practice.

Tulips, a beginner could certainly do this rug. There is almost no counting and it's very forgiving. My only challenge was to remember to keep my tension loose (I tend to get pretty tight if I don't catch myself.)

What gauge hook did you use?

Love the rug!

Tawaki, I used a P hook. I think it may be the largest commonly found.

It looks amazing! Someday I have got to learn how to do something like that.

And, your pup is adorable.
