It's come to our attention that several 8th grade boys and girls are vaping in the bathroom ...if we "smell" anything we need to "investigate"...they were told if they are caught the police will be called since it's illegal for anyone under 21....anyone else dealing with this?

I haven't heard anything about it so far, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

We had 2 students suspended. There is a vape thingy that looks like a large thumb drive.

It's always something....

My 15-year-old daughter told me that there is a girl who vapes in her Spanish class. When I told her teacher she had no idea. I told her depending on what they use, there is no smell after all.

My son says that it is so prevalent at his college you almost don't notice it. It has definitely filtered down to the middle and high school kids, too.

Vaping is more addictive that cigarettes and more damaging to lungs: https://www.sciencenewsforstudents.o...may-harm-lungs

Our resource officer told us about it (I am at an elementary school) and how they are really focusing on education for the older kids.

As if we already don't have enough to worry about in the classroom regarding liability.

Now we have to worry about students sneaking their neo-cigarettes in class.

Grrrrrreat....

Sigh.

I have not heard of this at all. I hope that this doesn't become another epidemic or trend for young teens to do. Peer pressure and so many of these unhealthy things that they have to deal with at this age is just a tragedy. I know it is happening so it is good to be aware of it, but I really hope that this vaping issue becomes a fad so that we don't have to see children using it for very long.

Yes, but not at the Middle School yet.

We have two buildings with eight minutes between classes at the HS. Students are constantly vaping during that time on the outside walkway. It's ridiculous and we don't have enough monitors to stop it. At the MS, it has not become a problem yet. YET. But we have behavior issues out the wazoo, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Btw, love your sign on.

Are they vaping weed or tobacco?

I think they both have a smell to be honest.

Weed smells bitter and tobacco smells like burnt oranges.

We had this problem with a group of boys. A few were suspended. This was our worst year ever, and a big problem was that kids would vape or do drugs and change their personalities in unexpected ways. They were completely different in the morning than they were in the afternoon. We never knew what we were going to get.

I teach seventh grade.
