Yogi has congestive heart failure. It started with a lot of coughing and then we noticed very labored breathing. The vet put him on three meds and wanted us to return in two weeks. I did. The medicines made him a new dog so we need to continue them but the meds are prohibitively expensive from the vet. She suggested checking out local pharmacies or buying them online. I tried two pharmacies but they don't have meds for him. I wound up ordering online. In the meantime his medicine ran out and the dog has gone downhill quickly. I'm floored by his decline. He's worse now than before the meds. Long story short we got some meds from the vet to hold us over until the online ones arrive but he's in such distress he's not eating and that makes getting the meds down him very difficult. We got most of his dose down him but the dog is greatly suffering. I feel awful about this and worry if he'll make it much longer. On top of this I also came home to a plumbing leak inside a wall. Luckily the water was going outside instead of inside. A plumber is working on it now.

This is going to be a long night.

Yikes. Iím sorry. Can you try sneaking the rest of his meds in food? Baby food works wonders. Or cheese.

The leak in the wall is never good but at least the plumber is coming.

When it rains it pours.

Keep us posted on Yogi.

I'm sorry to hear this! Any chance he could go to the emergency vet and get the meds through an iv? (Probably also very expensive, though). Keep us posted. Hope everything works out ok.

My dog loves her meds in cat food. Have you tried that?

So for both situations for you today. Gotta be a hard one.

Iím sorry things are so challenging tonight. That is really rough about your dog. I feel for you both. Hope he recovers with a little more time and the meds from the vet.

Our last dog had an enlarged heart and also suffered from congestive heart failure. The meds only bought him some time, but they weren't effective after a bit. The disease progresses, regardless of medication. Don't beat yourself up. You gave him good golden years. It really stinks when they get so sick. ((Hifiman. Here's a one armed shoulder hug- keep us posted. Take care.

Hope the plumbing issue has been resolved without too much of a burden on your finances. I'm sorry to hear about Yogi and the prescription issues. It happens. The prescription drug situation is just a mess and it shouldn't be that much of a burden to get the meds we need whether it's for us or our pets. I have prayed that Yogi will be better now that he does have his meds started again. You have no way of knowing, but his condition may be a coincidence of you running out of medicine, not a result. You are doing what you can for Yogi. Please don't blame yourself.
